Syrian Kurdish official praises U.S. decision to provide arms

"We hope the USA administration will put a stop to this wrong and turn back from it", he said.

"The supply of arms to the YPG is unacceptable", he said.

Tabqa and the nearby dam, Syria's largest, were seized a day earlier in an offensive that lasted almost seven weeks, with the backing of airstrikes from the global coalition.

U.S. Central Command, which oversees U.S. military operations in the Middle East, said approximately 70 Islamic State fighters had conceded to the SDF's terms, which included dismantling bombs surrounding the dam, surrendering their heavy weapons and withdrawing all remaining fighters from Tabqa. Its leaders have railed against any strategy that, in their view, would involve the US using one terrorist group to fight another. "Confirmed: Isis defeated in Tabqa Dam and Tabqa City, now in hands of Syrian Democratic Forces, led by its Syrian Arab Coalition".

Speaking to broadcaster A Haber, Nurettin Canikli said on Wednesday that Turkey "cannot accept the presence of terrorist organisations that would threaten the future of the Turkish state".

Prabhu inspects Tejas Express before it zips from Mumbai to Goa
The luxurious train, Tejas Express, will start running between Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus and Karmali in North Goa on May 22. Tejas Express, which will run at a speed of 130 kmph, has coaches equipped with automatic doors, Wi-Fi, and LCD screens.

"We'll do what we can to uncomplicate the situation for our partnered forces as they advance and retake that city", he said.

He said he hoped that recently taken decisions would be changed by the time he visits the United States. "A negative outcome will also emerge for the United States".

Turkey believes the US -backed Syrian Kurds, known as the YPG, are terrorists.

The YPG militia said the decision is "historic" and a "sign of confidence" in the group, in a statement released on Wednesday. It said warplanes, thought to belong to the US-led military coalition, hit al-Salihiya village.

Turkey considers the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and its armed wing, the YPG, to be the Syrian affiliates of the PKK, a terrorist organization listed by Turkey, the USA, and the EU.

Comey is known to produce memos documenting especially sensitive or unsettling encounters, such as after the February meeting. The Senate and House intelligence committees are also probing possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow.

The successful recapture of Tabqah, located roughly 30 miles west of ISIS stronghold Raqqa, denies the terrorists "a key coordination hub" that had been used by the group since 2013 to plan attacks on the West. Tabqah served as a base for planning such attacks after ISIS lost other territories in northern Syria.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu echoed Ergodan's remarks, insisting that "every weapon [the Kurds] obtain is a threat to Turkey".

"Every single one" of the weapons will be accounted for, and the US will "assure they are pointed at ISIS", Dorrian said, using an alternate acronym for IS.

Both Turkey and the United States have designated the PKK a terrorist organization, though the United States does not consider the Syrian Kurdish Peoples' Protection Units (YPG), who make up much of the SDF, the same organization as the PKK.

But the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces, of SDF, which has driven IS from much of northern Syria over the past two years with the help of USA -led airstrikes, are among the most effective ground forces battling the extremists.

Iran Elections: Conservative Candidate and Tehran Mayor Ghalibaf Withdraws from Race
Some conservatives had been unhappy that Qalibaf was standing again and risking a split in the anti-Rouhani vote. While a Raisi win "could usher in a more confrontational approach to domestic and regional policies", she warns.

The decision infuriated Turkey, a fellow North Atlantic Treaty Organisation member, which regards the YPG as the Syrian arm of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) that has waged a deadly insurgency inside Turkey since 1984. Like Turkey, the USA considers that group a terrorist organization. They are supporting the Syrian government forces.
