Iran election: Hassan Rouhani on course for second term

Voting had been scheduled to run until 6 p.m. (3:30 p.m. Prague time), but was extended several times because of a "rush of voters" that caused lines to form at polling booths in various parts of the country.

Iranian went to the polls on Friday to choose the next president from four candidates including incumbent President Hassan Rouhani.

Many voters at the NY polling booth had to take the day off work to cast their ballots.

Another official in Raisi's campaign said there had been 219 infractions so far today, and that not enough ballot papers had been distributed in areas thought to favour Raisi, including his home city of Mashhad.

Iranian state television and radio and digital media also reported that the supreme leader of the Islamic Revolution voted early in the morning at the number 110 polling station in Tehran. He called for a large turnout, saying "the country is in the hands of all people".

Meanwhile the capital city of Tehran, which has an effective role in results, is dominated by Rouhani supporters, according to the agency's estimates.

The Bajirao Mastani star will be seen essaying a negative role named Victoria Leeds in the forthcoming film. Baywatch is set to release in India on 2nd June 2017 and fans are already pretty excited for the film.

Rouhani has urged the Revolutionary Guards not to meddle in the vote in an effort to avoid a repeat of 2009's months of nationwide protests, which erupted amid suspicions that the Guards had falsified voting results in favour of former president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. "He kept the shadow of war far from our country".

"He has just looked after the rich and people who are Western".

"Any candidate who is elected should be helped to accomplish this heavy responsibility", Rouhani said.

Rouhani has history on his side in the election. He is seen by many as close to Khamenei, and he's been discussed as a possible successor to him, but Khamenei has not endorsed anyone.

Raisi promised more focus on the poor and attacked the government as corrupt and elitist.

"Democracy in Iran is allowed to bloom only a few days every four years, while autocracy is evergreen".

Rouhani has vowed to work towards removing the remaining non-nuclear sanctions, but critics argue that will be hard with Donald Trump as U.S. president - Trump has repeatedly described it as "one of the worst deals ever signed", although his administration re-authorised waivers from sanctions this week.

But according to a report from the National Iranian American Council, both candidates appear to be concerned by the idea of voter apathy.

Millions of voters converged on the polling stations Friday to decide the outcome of a fiercely contested race between two competing visions.

For Westerners, one of the biggest side effects of Friday's election results will be the fate of the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and the United States.

Millions of Iranians are facing a stark choice between a reformist and a hardliner in a crucial presidential election. "For me, Mr Rouhani's dialogue with the world and moderation in society are very important", said Zahra, a 32- year-old PhD student in food science. But he remains subordinate to the supreme leader, who is chosen by a clerical panel and has the ultimate say over all matters of state.
