Congress calls on Election Commission to reconsider opinion about EVMs

As the political tussle over the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) heats up, the Election Commission will today meet the representatives of 55 political parties, 16 of which had urged it to return to ballot papers.

In a discussion on the issue during the day-long special session of the Assembly, AAP MLA Saurabh Bhardwaj claimed a voting machine could be manipulated by simply feeding it with a "secret code". In the memorandum addressed to Zaidi, Rai said the live demonstration in the assembly using a "replica of the EVMs used by the ECI" had demolished the idea that voting machines used by it were tamper-proof.

Besides talking about the manufacturing details of the EVMs, ECI's status report also skips the mere possibility of changing the microcontroller, as it is claimed by Kejriwal.

Batting for the implementation of the Ballot Paper system for conducting elections, the Congress on Friday said the Election Commission of India (ECI) should reconsider its opinion about the same.

Wannacry cyber attack compromised Russian banks in isolated cases
In addition, companies needing to restore their operations right away likely would have turned to backups, if available, by now. The developers released the tool on Friday, as the deadline expires for computers all over the world first infected a week ago.

The Election Commission too has repeatedly asserted that the EVMs can not be tampered with.

He said the AAP is ready to demonstrate before the panel about how the EVMs could have tampered. Bhardwaj went on to add that the Commission has denied access to EVMs, from the states of Uttarakhand, Punjab and even Delhi, which could have been tampered with.

"Such so called demonstrations on extraneous and duplicate gadgets which are not owned by the ECI can not be exploited to influence our intelligent citizens and electorate to assail or vilify the EVMs used by the Commission in its electoral process", it added.

"In a democracy, unbiased approach of the Election Commission is very important".

Trump told Russians that firing 'nut job' Comey eased pressure from investigation
The White House has struggled to explain the chain of events that led Mr Comey's firing - and who exactly made the decision. The investigation is now in the hands of a special counsel, as well as multiple Congressional committees.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj threw a fresh challenge before the poll panel on Thursday by saying his party can prove how the EVMs used in assembly polls were pre-programmed to favour a particular party.

The Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) is an independent verification printer machine attached to EVMs.

All those allegations are expected to come to a head on Friday, May 12, at the all-party meeting the Election Commission (EC) has called in the light of questions raised from all quarters.

We hope that ECI in its meeting will prove to all parties that EVMs are safe and can't be tampered.

Will you be giving ARMS Global Testpunch a run on May 26? Fans will be able to download the Demos from the Nintendo eShop. Ranked matches will be available as well as an offline Grand Prix that resembles a single player campaign of 10 matches.

Bhardwaj, who has ten years of experience working with embedded systems, was chosen to demonstrate how EVM tampering is possible as the Election Commission (EC) has always maintained that these machines can not be tampered with during an actual election process due to the many safeguards in place.
