India gives China's 'One Belt One Road' summit a deliberate miss

Xi addressed nearly 30 leaders on the second day of a forum on his new Silk Road plan, a huge infrastructure project meant to revive ancient land and sea trade routes from Asia to Europe and Africa.

While some see Beijing's project as a geopolitical power play, Mr Xi has insisted that the Belt and Road is open to everybody.

Leaders from 29 countries, including Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte and Italian Prime Minister Paolo Gentiloni, as well as the heads of the United Nations, International Monetary Fund and World Bank, are attending the Belt and Road forum.

Italy is willing to participate in cooperation under the Belt and Road framework, particularly in the field of infrastructure, and to strengthen collaboration with China in areas linked to economy, technology, agriculture, public health, education, culture, tourism as well as small- and medium-sized enterprises, he said.

German Economy Minister Brigitte Zypries said Sunday the European Union would not join the Chinese initiative unless issues like transparency, fairness in tenders, environmental protection and conformity with global trade standards were met.

It comprises the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.

Reacting to India's reservations over the CPEC, a flagship project of China's prestigious One Belt One Road (OBOR) initiative, the Chinese foreign ministry said over 100 countries and organisations were already involved in the venture.

The next Belt and Road summit will be held in 2019, he said.

India has been the most openly critical voice against the $1 trillion scheme, largely because one of the key projects passes through Pakistan and the disputed Kashmir region. "Connectivity projects must be pursued in a manner that respects sovereignty and territorial integrity", the statement read.

A number of police complaints were also lodged against the Imam in different police stations of Bengal. He has issued fatwa faster than the centuries of Virat Kohli from the Tipu Sultan Mosque of Kolkata .

Responding to the statement, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying asked what India meant by "meaningful dialogue".

"We are awaiting a positive response from the Chinese side", he added. CPEC is not about the conflict with various sides and will not affect China's position on the Kashmir issue.

"It has been a great pleasure to be back in China on the occasion of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation".

"We hope to translate consensus into action and achieve fresh outcomes in practical cooperation", he said.
