AAP takes EVM protest to Election Commission

The Election Commission has thrown an open challenge to all the political parties to hack - on Sunday and Monday - the Electronic Voting Machines owned, maintained and secured by the poll panel. Now Election Commission is also expected to ephemeral to the parties about its strategic EVM slashing test.

Rubbishing the claim that the EVMs are tamper-proof, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said, in the affidavit submit by the Government in the Aadhaar case, it has mentioned that in today's world of technology, no machine is full proof which can not be tampered.

In recent past, Aam Aadmi Party blamed that Electronic Voting Machines could have interfered.

Asked why they thought EVMs could be rigged, the protesters, many of whom carried replicas of EVM machines, mostly cited Bhardwaj's live demonstration in the assembly. The Delhi Assembly passed a resolution on Tuesday appealing to the President and the EC to compulsorily use Voter Verified Paper Audit Trail machines in every election and also count VVPAT slips in one out of every four booths in each constituency.

The Congress leader asserted that the poll panel should reconsider its opinion about the EVM.

It said paper trail machines with all EVMs in future elections was fine.

EC had trashed AAP's claim saying the "machine is a look-alike and not the ECI-EVM". "As far as the EVMs are concerned, these allegations or irregularities should be settled once and for all".

Apart from Kejriwal, a host of opposition parties including the Mayawati-led Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) have alleged that EVMs were tampered with in the February-March assembly elections in 5 states and the just concluded civic polls in Delhi.

Arsenal's most recent title came prior to that run, in 2003-04, while Spurs, who are set to finish as runners-up, won the last of their two championships in 1960-61.

Bhardwaj said that at tomorrow's all-party meeting, which he would attend along with two technical experts of the AAP, he would request that a committee be formed to access "suspicious" EVMs.

The EC, however, has said that it hasn't backed out, and had accepted the AAP's demand of being given a machine.

The AAP and Congress had demanded polling through ballot papers for last month's Delhi MCD polls but the the Delhi State Election Commission said EVMs were "completely safe". "The EC is being very smart", Bhardwaj said.

The proposal involves getting 16,15,000 VVPAT units for EVMs at a cost of around Rs 3,173.47 crore for use in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.
