Putin, Moon stress political, diplomatic solution to tensions on Korean Peninsula

"We hope for Russian Federation to play a constructive role in order for North Korea to stop with its nuclear provocations and go the way of denuclearisation", Moon was citing as saying to Putin in the 20-minute conversation.

Earlier in the day, Moon spoke with British Prime Minister Theresa May and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Blue House said.

Park's father is slain military strongman Park Chung-hee, who ruled South Korea in the 1960s and '70s, and whose legacy as a successful economic strategist is marred by a record of vicious civilian oppression.

He told Chinese President Xi Jinping on Thursday the resolution of the North Korea issue "must be comprehensive and sequential, with pressure and sanctions used in parallel with negotiations". Sustaining progress on this area will greatly contribute to the security of all involved, and such coordination also makes it clear to China that - even if they don't care enough about North Korea's nuclear weapons to take on some risk - the consequences of inaction, including enhanced US military capabilities in the region, should motivate them to do more.

Senate Intelligence Committee subpoenas Michael Flynn for Russian Federation investigation
Yates testified to congress on Monday that she told the White House Flynn could be "blackmailed by the Russians". But she noted that "you should not draw from that an assumption that that means that the answer is yes".

North Korea says it needs its weapons to defend itself against the United States which it says has pushed the region to the brink of nuclear war.

The center will draw on officers from across the CIA and "bring their expertise and creativity to bear against the North Korea target", an agency statement said.

The demand comes a week after the North sensationally alleged it uncovered a US-South Korean plot to kill Kim with biochemical, radioactive or poisonous substances during a major event, such as a military parade.

Moon often argues that South Korea has no choice but to recognise the North Korean regime under Kim Jong-un as the leader of a reclusive neighbour.

New Orleans Removes Confederate President Jefferson Davis Statue
Landrieu said the monuments will be removed and put into storage until a suitable and permanent home can be found. The statue was loaded onto a trailer and secured for delivery to an undisclosed location in a warehouse.

North Korea called such assertions "pure ignorance". On Thursday, US Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats said North Korea posed "a very significant, potentially existential threat to the United States that has to be addressed". Aside from humanitarian aid, North Korea should not get something for nothing.

But challenging Washington on THAAD would be hard for Moon, despite widespread opposition to it in South Korea - especially after Trump suggested South Korea should pay the roughly $1 billion bill for it - and loud protests from China, which claims the system is a security threat. By reviving the 'Sunshine policy, ' Moon could rewrite relations with the North. In the call, Xi asked Moon to visit Beijing, Moon's office said.

As well as clouding efforts to rein in North Korea's nuclear ambitions, the THAAD deployment has also led to recriminations from Beijing against South Korean companies.

The North is technically still at war with the South and has no diplomatic relations with the USA, but China is its sole major ally.

Chinese rap song warns against THAAD in South Korea
North Korea is holding four American citizens, and the current outlook for their return is not particularly promising. Together with Beijing, Seoul could develop its response toward North Korea in bringing peace on the Korean Peninsula.
