U.S. warns 'third country sanctions' on North Korea

The Singapore Straits Times reports U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson plans to ask ASEAN member nations for their "robust" implementation of worldwide sanctions against North Korea.

"The secretary noted shared concerns by many in the region regarding militarization and land reclamation in the South China Sea", the department said in a readout.

Mr Tillerson called on Asean countries to fully implement United Nations sanctions on Pyongyang, which is working to develop a nuclear-tipped missile capable of reaching the U.S., and to show a united front on the issue, Mr Murphy said.

"Southeast Asia is replete with economic opportunities and it's too big to miss out on", he said.

According to Murphy, the United States was encouraging "continued and further steps across all of ASEAN".

Former US president Obama had warned Trump against Flynn
Sergey Kislyak, according to White House officials, two full weeks after Yates first met with McGahn. The House and Senate intelligence committees are conducting their own simultaneous investigations.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson on Thursday pressed Southeast Asian governments to ensure "leak-proof" enforcement of sanctions against North Korea and to prevent the pariah nation's diplomats from conducting business that could benefit its weapons programs.

The special meeting was arranged after Secretary Tillerson received a request from ASEAN foreign ministers, who offered to travel to Washington to see him prior to the planned multilateral meetings scheduled to take place in August in the Philippines.

All 10 ASEAN members now have diplomatic relations with North Korea, and five of them - Indonesia, Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia, and Malaysia - have embassies or missions in Pyongyang. He said China has an "important role" to play, and ASEAN has not yet discussed reducing the North Korean diplomatic presence in their countries. Tillerson also warned that Washington could impose secondary sanctions on those involved in illegal business dealings with Pyongyang.

In Pyongyang, North Korea's state media published a rare and strong criticism against China, saying commentaries from Chinese state media calling for tougher sanctions on Pyongyang's nuclear program are undermining bilateral relations.

"I do believe some countries are taking a look at their presence in North Korea and trying to assess if it's appropriate or not", he said.

Mattis: US reviewing Syria safe zones but has many questions
Syrian state TV said some 60 buses and ambulances of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent were on hand for the evacuations. Local "reconciliation" deals that the government is pursuing with rebels were an alternative to that, he said.

This announcement came after the White House was under fire for inviting Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to the U.S. He said that the February assassination of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's estranged brother at a Malaysian airport, using a chemical agent, illustrated the threat it posed "in the heart of ASEAN".

In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said the South China Sea issue is neither a problem between China and ASEAN, nor between the USA and ASEAN. Asean leaders nonetheless "underscored the importance of the full and effective implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea in its entirety" during the Asean summit in Manila last month.

Murphy said Tillerson was quite emphatic about the need to stop these activities to give the talks a good chance of succeeding.

The United States has conducted freedom of navigation operations to challenge South China Sea claims, greatly angering China, but has yet do so under Trump.
