France's Le Pen says far-right National Front to be relaunched

Macron defeated Marine Le Pen, a far-right nationalist who threatened to take France out of the European Union.

The centrist's emphatic victory, which also smashed the dominance of France's mainstream parties, will bring huge relief to European allies who had feared another populist upheaval to follow Britain's vote to quit the EU and Donald Trump's election as United States president.

Early reports show a voter turnout of approximately 75%, the lowest turnout in many years.

Macron's expected margin of victory was bigger than the gap shown by pre-election polls, which had projected a Macron victory by around 20 points. He only truly entered the public discourse when he rebelled against Hollande's socialist party and ran as an independent presidential candidate for his En Marche!

Le Pen said the contest against the pro-EU Macron had confirmed a new faultline "between patriots and globalists". He built a reputation with his "Macron Law", a controversial reform bill allowing, among other things, longer retail hours on Sunday.

Despite glowering skies and dime-size hailstones, MTV was heralding the start of the summer viewing season with its shindig. But inside, it was dry (except for flowing cocktails among audience members) as Adam Devine hosted the proceedings.

Meanwhile, Le Pen's 27-year-old niece, Marion Marechal-Le Pen, said she felt a "certain amount of disappointment" at the result and said it was time for "reflection".

Separately, the FN's deputy leader, Florian Philippot, said the party would alter its name as it sought to transform itself into a "new political force".

In interviews Monday, the campaign director for Marine Le Pen, David Rachline, said the party founded by her father would get a new name as bait to pull in more supporters in France.

Jean-Marie Le Pen, asked about his daughter's plans for a makeover, said the party had to be "remain the basics of the National Front".

The 48-year-old's share of the vote was set to be nearly twice that won by her father Jean-Marie, the last National Front candidate to qualify for a presidential runoff, who was trounced by Jacques Chirac in 2002.

But, most importantly, it was meant to prevent another Game 7 failure like the one they endured against Cleveland. Golden State took a 9-0 lead, then took control in second quarter before pulling away in the fourth.

"I called Mr Macron to congratulate him on his election, and because I have the country's higher interest at heart, I wished him success faced with the huge challenges France is facing", she said. (Onwards!), his political movement that is barely a year old, in order to implement his program.

Le Pen told supporters to look ahead to the parliamentary elections and pledged to be the main voice of opposition to Macron's movement.

"The Prime Minister warmly congratulates President-elect Macron on his election success".

Donald Tusk, the president of the European Council, also tweeted his congratulations.

France presidential election: Third of voters spoiled ballots or abstained
It's unclear whether the document dump will dent the large polling lead Macron held over Le Pen going into the vote. France has been in a state of emergency since then and 50,000 security forces safeguarded Sunday's vote.
