USADA hits Frank Mir with two-year suspension for banned substance

Frank Mir receives 2-year sanction for anti-doping policy violation.

USADA announced on Friday that Frank Mir received a two-year sanction after multiple positive tests for a prohibited substance. Mir tested positive for a long-term metabolite of dehydrochloromethyltestosterone (DHCMT), following an in-competition test conducted after his knockout loss to Mark Hunt on March 20, 2016, in Brisbane, Australia. The finding of a long-term DHCMT metabolite in Mir's sample, which was identified through a new detection method by the WADA-accredited laboratory in Tokyo, Japan, led to Mir being provisionally suspended from competition on April 8, 2016.

The 38-year-old Mir (18-11) will be subject to a two-year sanction that will not be retroactive to the day the sample was taken. Which essentially means that Mir has already served half of his suspension at this point in time. In today's announcement, USADA didn't directly address the delay but stated that the new detection method was used at a World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited testing laboratory in Tokyo, which caught the banned substance in Mir's in-competition sample. The new finding prompted USADA to reanalyze Mir's previously collected samples, in which they discovered an out-of-competition test on February 5, 2016, was also positive for the same prohibited substance.

Turkish President insists constitutional reforms don't make him 'dictator'
In Sunday's referendum, the "Yes" campaign won over 51 percent of the votes, while the "No" campaign gained almost 49 percent.

After this post-fight sample tested positive it prompted USADA to go back and retest an out-of-competition sample from Mir that had previously tested negative.

That will put Mir out of competition until at least April 8, 2019, at which time he will be 40 years old. He had been appealing the decision, and then had asked for his release from his UFC contract to fight elsewhere.

Mir, who won the UFC Heavyweight Championship in 2004 and again in 2008, is the winningest heavyweight in UFC history, with 16 wins, and he's tied for eighth overall in UFC wins.

Apple touts greater use of recycled metal in gadgets
That'd be a spike from the 78 million units Apple sold in the holiday quarter of 2016, which reflected the iPhone 7 launch. It's expanding the use of Liam , a robot that's able to disassemble products and recover recyclable components.

"I guess because of being a U.S. citizen, I'm very much into "innocent until proven guilty, ' and they're very much the "guilty until proven innocent" approach", Mir said. "Which, again, I understand".

Mir has yet to comment on his suspension.
