Trump wants to rethink worker visas

President Donald Trump is ramping up his "buy American, hire American" initiative with a new set of executive orders.

The order calls for a series of relatively modest steps, including a multiagency report on changes needed for the H-1B visa program, under which the government admits 85,000 foreign workers annually, many of them in the high-tech, industrial, medical and science fields.

The White House released a statement which said H-1B visas are supposed to bring the highest skilled and paid labour to the United States.

What it does do is say the executive branch will follow the laws already on the books that require the government to buy American goods and to maximize the use of products made in the U.S.

Corbyn's Labour faces 'decade' in wilderness, says Nun
The decision may have been passed by MPs, but 16% of voters said they were opposed to the move and 28% said they were unsure. The Prime Minister said Labour's economic policies would mean it is "ordinary working people who pay the price".

The order will also direct USA agencies to propose rules to prevent immigration fraud and abuse in the program. They would also be asked to offer changes so that H-1B visas are awarded to the "most-skilled or highest-paid applicants", said administration officials who spoke only on the condition of anonymity despite the president's frequent criticism of the use of anonymous sources. The company has used existing visa waiver laws in order to fill positions with foreign workers in Trump properties such as Mar-a-Lago and Trump Winery.

The administration announced that it will suspend "premium processing", a process where US employers will be expected to wait several months before the H-1B foreign workers can enter the country.

"They are going against it because they want to protect their own interests, and that's scary", Trump Jr. said. "Developing incentives to buy American-made products and hire American workers is a key part of the President's commitment to job growth and stimulating our economy". "It's America first. You better believe it".

"As an American I've seen more done in two months then I have in the prior two administrations, actually promises", Trump Jr. said.

Dortmund's injured Bartra out for a month after bus attack
Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Buerki said the team bus had just pulled out of the hotel driveway when an explosion sent glass flying. It could easily have been a lot worse. "Thanks to the doctors, nurses, physiotherapists and people who helped me recover.

Those affected the most may be the immigrants from India, as they made up almost 70 percent of the recipients of H-1B visa in 2015, according to data from the State Department and Bureau of Consular Affairs cited by the New York Times.

What it means: The Trump administration has already suspended a practice that allowed employers to get their foreign worker hiring applications processed early for a higher fee.

Though the executive order would make no changes to the visa program, how it works is likely to be tweaked in the near future. The company employs about 11,000 people worldwide.

The trip to Wisconsin marked Trump's first visit to Speaker Paul Ryan's home state and district since taking office.
