PNG Police Rubbish Dutton's Claims About Manus Shooting

While PNG police and military had blamed the incident on a dispute about a soccer oval, Dutton aired previously unheard allegations relating to a young boy.

A parliamentary inquiry into immigration detention centres on Nauru and Manus Island has been scathing of healthcare offered to asylum seekers and refugees.

Peter Dutton has weighed in on why PNG Defence personnel may have opened fire on Good Friday, saying three asylum seekers were spotted leading a five-year-old boy towards the immigration centre. I think some of the local residents were quite angry about this particular incident and another alleged sexual assault, ' he said. "The incident that transpired on Friday was because a duty soldier was being assaulted by one of the asylum seekers or refugees".

The five-year-old boy was returned to his parents unharmed, he said.

"Security came to them later that night and asked what [the] child was doing and they explained and security left", he said.

"The report is highly speculative and relies consistently on anecdotal evidence, second- and third-hand reports, and on unsupported allegations that are presented as fact", deputy chair Ian Macdonald and David Fawcett said in their dissenting report.

Lions Coaches Reveal Why They Snubbed Scottish Players
There were 16 England players selected, along with 12 from Wales, 11 from Ireland and two from Scotland. Warburton stood down from the Wales captaincy this season and is now out with a knee injury.

"That's a total different issue altogether", he said.

Fairfax Media spoke to Mr Yapu on Thursday afternoon.

The committee, which was made up of six parliamentarians from across the political spectrum, began by stating that the Australian government clearly had a "duty of care" to asylum seekers in its offshore detention facilities.

However, PNG police were unable to confirm Mr Dutton's account on Thursday, and refugees on the island vehemently denied its accuracy.

Benham Satah said on Facebook that two weeks ago a boy who was asking for money or food was brought to the centre and given fruit, before being escorted away by Wilson Security.

"Both the conditions on Manus Island and the threat of deportation to persecution and harm is placing lives at risk and adding to the fear and suffering of asylum seekers and refugees", the Society's National Policy Advisor, Corinne Dobson, said.

"There's a constant movement of staff up and down that road", he said.

"I think there was concern about why the boy was being led, or for what objective he was being led, away back into the regional processing centre", he told Sky News. "It just wouldn't happen".

The Greens senator Nick McKim told Guardian Australia Dutton had been caught telling an "outrageous lie" and should either "resign or be sacked".

Neither statement referenced a child.

It recommended an external audit into all incident reports during the life of the detention centre contract of Transfield (now known as Broadspectrum Australia).
