Sanders promoting new blood in Democrats but impact unclear

"We need to transform the Democratic Party", Sanders said in Louisville's packed Palace Theater while headlining a Democratic Party rally in Kentucky Tuesday.

Bernie Sanders is a guy who has a lot of advice for the Democratic Party, despite the fact that he doesn't consider himself a member.

SCOTT DETROW, BYLINE: Hey, Ari.

That's why Perez, fresh off a contentious campaign to take over the DNC, is sharing a stage and sitting down for joint interviews with Sanders.

She said raising the minimum wage could change her life for the better.

Handel spends most of her efforts touting her record in public office, but makes a point to join in the Pelosi bashing. The former Georgia secretary of state will face Democrat Jon Ossoff in a runoff for the 6th Congressional District.

DETROW: Yeah, Sanders is saying that for years, the Democratic Party has just been out of touch and hasn't had a clear message. According to the Hill, Bernie Sanders is the most popular politician in the United States, citing an April Harvard-Harris survey where 57 percent of respondents viewed the Vermont Senator favorably, with only 32 percent of respondents viewing him unfavorably.

SHAPIRO: So Scott, what is he trying to accomplish on this unity tour then?

He also called for a "Medicaid for all, single-payer system" and criticized Republicans for attempting to repeal the Affordable Care Act.

"You saw an absolute collision between their alternative world of falsehoods and the reality on the ground", Perez said during an interview Tuesday afternoon. Sanders will headline a Louisville event aimed at helping re-energize Kentucky's downtrodden Democratic Party.

"You don't stand with the working people of this country by supporting health care legislation that throws 24 million people off of health insurance", former presidential candidate Sanders said of the languishing health care overhaul backed by Trump.

United are joined in the last four by Celta Vigo, who beat Mat Ryan's Genk, Ajax and Olympique Lyon. "I am exhausted . So instead of coming mid-May you can come beginning May - this kind of acceleration of the process", he said.

Sanders and Perez have embarked on this cross-country speaking tour at a time when the Democratic Party is focused on uniting voters who oppose Trump's administration and preparing for the midterm elections next year, when many liberals hope to take control of some congressional seats that are held by Republicans right now. Tom Perez was not included in the survey, but he is widely viewed as an "establishment" Democrat by Bernie Sanders supporters, and establishment Democrats, in general, did not fare well in the survey.

DETROW: Well, I think that Perez and some of the DNC leaders who have come on board - again, he's only been chair for about a month or so. Americans who support Bernie Sanders are exhausted of vague rhetoric about "hope and change". If that's the case, there's little need for Democrats to move toward adopting a much more sweeping class-based attack on the rich.

Perez told the ME audience that resistance to Trump would come by winning seats in Congress, in statehouses, and on school boards.

DETROW: And there were moments over the last few days where he's been right, where the crowd was kind of murmuring, ready for Bernie Sanders to come on.

He said his road trip this week with Perez was not about sending a message of unity, but rather about focusing attention on the issues and encouraging voter participation. Do you think that's playing out in Congress, where Democrats drew a red line on negotiating on health care (no repeal of Obamacare) and are drawing another on taxes (Trump must release his tax returns first)?
