Patriots hit back at New York Times over White House tweet

The Patriots followed up with another tweet, comparing Wednesday's attendance with a ceremony during former President George W. Bush's tenure: "Comparable photos: The last time the #Patriots won two Super Bowls in three years, 36 players visited the White House". Brady had planned on making the White House visit, but will instead spend time with his mother who flew in from California to Boston to visit Brady and his family.

While it isn't clear why Brady was not present, he also did not attend the White House visit in 2015.

Might those personal family matters include showing solidarity with his wife?

Skipping a team visit to the White House isn't new for athletes.

But several New England players did not attend Wednesday's ceremony, many of them expressing opposition to Trump on political grounds.

He was not happy with his McLaren car's performance, though, saying "I've never raced with less power in my life" over the radio. Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari was in fourth, while Daniel Ricciardo's Red Bull finished in fifth.

Brady is a personal friend of Trump's, and the president often cited the quarterback while out on the campaign trail a year ago.

New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski crashed Spicer's White House press briefing on Wednesday.

"I think I got this, but thank you", replies the press secretary, who is from Rhode Island and is reportedly a fan of the New England football team. You know, some of the players have the privilege of going in college because they're on national championship teams, others have family commitments.

Trump commended Kraft for building a "culture dedicated to winning" and noted that "he started it with his coach", Belichick.

Tom Brady, Chris Long, Alan Branch, LeGarrette Blount, Martellus Bennett, Dont'a Hightower and Devin McCourty were not among the players who made the trip to Washington, D.C. Should the Patriots decline to match, the defending Super Bowl champion would receive a first-round pick compensation from Malcolm Butler's new team.

Oil Falls to One-Week Low
A surge in US production is a major threat to OPEC's effort to reset the still-oversupplied global oil market. In London, June Brent crude LCOM7, -3.75% on the ICE exchange shed 16 cents, or 0.3%, at $54.73 a barrel.

"It is a distinct honor for us to celebrate what was unequivocally our sweetest championship with a very good friend and somebody whose mental toughness and strength I greatly admire", Kraft said.

The visit came the same day that former Patriot Aaron Hernandez killed himself in prison, where he was serving a life sentence for murder.

A team spokesman said the Patriots were aware of the reports of Hernandez's death but the club wasn't expected to comment.

In the video, Spicer is answering questions from the media as per usual when Gronkowski, also known as "Gronk", barges in through a door behind the White House official.

He also promised that such incident would never happen again, and that they would treat their customers with dignity. Munoz and his top lieutenants indicated that it was too early to tell if bookings had been affected by the incident.
