Nintendo Switch outsells PS4, Xbox One in USA in March

Another group that could have played a role in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild's impressive sales numbers are people that bought the game for the Switch before they had their hands on the console. A report by the NPD Group reveals that the Switch was the top-selling console in the USA during its launch month of March. The record only applies to the U.S. market, not globally, a spokesman for the Kyoto-based company said. For context, Microsoft moved more than 2 million Xbox One units in its first 18 days of availability while Sony moved 2.1 million PlayStation 4 units in that console's first 14 days, according to CNBC. While its limited software lineup and limited graphics ability have been criticized, demand has consistently outstripped supply during the first six weeks of sales. 925,000 of those copies were on the Switch and 460,000 were sold on the Wii U.

Breath of the Wild sold over 1.3 million units.

The Nintendo Switch is selling fast and breaking records at Nintendo. This is thanks in no small part to the release of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as well. This makes the Nintendo Switch one of the fastest-selling video game systems of all time.

Even Super Mario 64-one of only two games that launched with the Nintendo 64 in the USA in 1996-didn't outsell its own console hardware in its debut (The best numbers we could find suggest 300,000 Super Mario 64 cartridges sold for 350,000 Nintendo 64 consoles in the system's opening weekend). Including the launching of the world's most powerful console, the Project Scorpio, alongside an fantastic lineup of new Xbox One games.

Of course, stocks are still low deep into April, with Nintendo saying that they are "working to make sure everyone who wants a system is able to buy one, and more systems are continually being shipped".

Killer of NFL's Will Smith gets 25 years for manslaughter
Hayes was convicted of fatally shooting Smith and wounding Smith's wife in a confrontation after a traffic crash previous year . Hayes was sentenced to 25 years in prison for manslaughter, far less than the maximum prosecutors had called for.

Van Dreunen also added that the upcoming game lineup for the Switch was strong, with new games like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 2 set to release soon. "After collecting 10 or so arrows, subsequent shots never spawn an arrow pickup", one fan wrote. That means Nintendo sold more copies of Breath of the Wild for the Switch than it sold of the Switch console itself.
