Governor applauds verdict in police ambush trial

- The survivalist who shot and killed a Pennsylvania State Police trooper and injured another in an ambush at their barracks will now fight for his own life following his conviction on capital murder charges.

Frein, 33, of Barrett Township, Monroe County, is standing trial on a dozen charges, including first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer and terrorism.

Frein became the subject of a statewide manhunt on September 12, 2014, after he ambushed two Pennsylvania state troopers with a.308-caliber rifle at a Bloomington Grove state police barracks.

Prosecution witnesses testified about the 48-day manhunt that Frein, an experienced outdoorsman, eluded through the dense forests of the Pocono Mountains, about 100 miles north of Philadelphia, in the northeast corner of the state. He says the defense team "can't make him a holy man" but they're "trying to make him a man".

Auto sales also showed signs of recovering after weakening early in the year after the government reduced subsidies. The reading was an improvement compared to the average analyst expectations of 6.8% in a poll conducted by AFP.

Eric Frein showed no emotion when he was found guilty on all counts in his murder trial, Wednesday. Bryon Dickson was killed, and a second trooper was shot through the hips and left debilitated.

"A terrorist with murder in his heart, a plan in his mind and a rifle in his hand, who slithered through the woods", was how Frein was described by Pike County District Attorney Ray Tonkin in his closing argument at Pike County Courthouse.

The jury in the case against Eric Frein announced their verdict after hours of deliberating. According to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections, only three people have been executed since 1976, when the U.S. Supreme Court restored the death penalty in the state. He wrote a letter to his parents while on the run in which he talked about sparking a revolution.

Wednesday's verdict came as no surprise after prosecutors presented more than 500 pieces of evidence tying Frein to the attack.
