GOP wins tight Kansas race in first House vote of Trump admin

In November, Republican U.S. Rep. Mike Pompeo, who resigned to become President Donald Trump's Central Intelligence Agency director, carried the district by 31 points.

President Trump took to Twitter on Wednesday to praise the victory of a Republican candidate in Tuesday's special congressional election in Kansas. The district has been hard hit by the downturn in the agricultural economy and the loss of hundreds of well-paying, blue-collar jobs in aircraft manufacturing plants.

The unofficial results were reported by the 17 county election officers in the 4th District on election night. The Republican's margin was just under 6,500 votes.

Pompeo won the 4th District with 60 percent of the vote in November before his presidential appointment. He says he wants to see if the GOP "can get something done" with Republican majorities in the U.S. House and Senate. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz campaigned with Estes on Monday, warning of complacency. "I realized this was important".

After Tuesday night's special election, a Republican will continue to represent the people in Kansas's Fourth Congressional District. She was for public schools and for Medicaid expansion, key issues in small towns trying to protect schools and rural hospitals.

"I can't stand Brownback", she said as she left her polling site in Belle Plaine.

The Panneerselvam faction demanded withdrawal of the affidavits filed with the Election Commission that mentioned V.K. Munusamy also hit out at senior leader M Thambidurai who had said that Palaniswami would continue as Chief Minister.

He said he plans to eventually change his party affiliation to Republican. Pompeo won reelection by 31 points previous year.

In the campaign's final weekend, the NRCC spent close to $100,000 on the race, and the GOP-allied Congressional Leadership Fund super PAC paid for tens of thousands of get-out-the-vote phone calls.

Thompson told The Huffington Post in an interview over the weekend that even if he loses, he still considers the race to be a victory for Democrats because it shows that they can make Republican strongholds competitive.

In a sign of nervousness in the waning days of the campaign, Republicans poured money into the race to bolster Estes.

Estes won 16 counties in the district, while Thompson won only in Sedgwick County. "Our country needs help".

Estes defeated Democratic candidate Jim Thompson by less than seven points, earning 52.5% of the vote while Thompson earned 45.7% - a difference of about 8,000 votes, according to the New York Times.

Oilers-Sharks a battle of two contrasting generations
Game 5 will be played Thursday night in Edmonton , with the sixth game Saturday night in San Jose . As bad as things were for the Oilers in the first period, the second was far worse.

"Due to the failure of House Republicans to pass repeal and replace, we have not proven we can transform ourselves from an opposition party to a governing party", said the GOP House member.

"Ron Estes is running TODAY for Congress in the Great State of Kansas".

"There's several moving things in Congress right now", Estes said.

Thompson called his campaign "people-powered" because much of his fundraising came from individual donors.

"Estes had his chance being one of Brownback's buddies", Altmiller said. "I do think that is significant". On Monday, Republican Rep. Joe Wilson of SC, who shouted "You Lie!" at President Barack Obama during a 2009 health care speech, heard chants of the same phrase at a town hall from constituents angry about health care and his voting record on violence against women. And the GOP has struggled to put away a trio of special election House races in districts where it won easily just last November.

Jeremy Corbyn's first general election speech will attack 'cosy cartel'
There has been widespread public support for Monday's decision, while political experts have given mixed responses. Moreover, this is a prospect that people must consider if they are tempted to vote for the Liberal Democrats.
