Valley County falls just short of winning 'America's Best Communities' cash prize

Huntington officials in Denver, Colorado, received a $3 million award to be used on local revitalization efforts.

Lake Havasu City, Arizona has won $2 million as one of the top finishers in the America's Best Communities competition.

With funding from the competition, Arlington and Darrington has advanced a revitalization plan that focuses on six goals: infrastructure, industry and employment, community and workforce development, resilience and sustainability, placemaking and rural innovation.

The finalists, which rose to the top eight out of a field of 350 communities across the US, competed for first-, second- and third-place prizes worth $3 million, $2 million and $1 million, respectively.

Gigabit City will connect the aforementioned areas of Huntington and downtown with high-speed broadband through a public-private partnership.
