US VP Warns North Korea of Testing Trump's Resolve

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, right, and U.S. Vice President Mike Pence shake hands prior to a luncheon hosted by Abe at the prime minister's official residence in Tokyo, Tuesday, April 18, 2017.

Suga, the Japanese government spokesman, said Japan hopes to discuss policies on North Korea with Pence and to convey a growing sense of urgency over its missile tests and other actions. In the video, that missile was joined by other missiles shooting into sky, passing over the Pacific and exploding in giant balls of flames in the United States.

Pence on Monday had traveled to the tense zone dividing North and South Korea, where he warned North Korea's leaders that after years of testing the US and South Korea with its nuclear ambitions, "the era of strategic patience is over".

North Korea has taken "self-defensive" measures in response to U.S. threats of military action and these reflect Pyongyang's determination to "counter nukes and ICBM in kind", Kim said, referring to intercontinental ballistic missiles.

"You don't know exactly who you're dealing with".

U.S. Vice President Mike Pence says the U.S. will not relent until it achieves its objective of ensuring the Korean Peninsula is free of nuclear weapons.

"I think myself and our medical staff really agreed with him that this would be a good opportunity to get some rest". Knocked off by the Cavs last season, they would get Cleveland one round sooner this time if both advance.

"If the United States tries a cruise missile strike like what is done in Syria, then the North has the very serious capability of going to war against South Korea and targeting U.S. bases", Osgood noted. "It doesn't make any difference if it does or not - North Korea is a problem, the problem will be taken care of", Trump said.

Trump himself appeared to reinforce the stern USA message at the White House, replying "Gotta behave" when a CNN reporter asked what message he had for North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

Abe hailed Pence's visit as "extremely timely given the severe state of the situation surrounding North Korea".

Pyongyang is seeking to develop a long-range missile capable of hitting the United States mainland with a nuclear warhead, and has so far staged five nuclear tests, two of them previous year.

North Korea regularly threatens to destroy Japan, South Korea and the United States and it showed no let-up in its belligerence after a failed missile test on Sunday, a day after putting on a huge display of missiles in Pyongyang.

In Beijing, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made a new appeal Tuesday for calm on the Korean Peninsula.

How President Trump Has Changed His Tune on Global Deals
The administration said it has extended the sanctions relief to Iran in exchange for curbs on its nuclear programme. He had said in January 2016, after the deal was implemented, that "Iran will not get its hands on a nuclear bomb".

There is no internal conflict in North Korea.

Even as Washington's US$69 billion (S$96 billion) trade deficit with Tokyo cast a shadow over their talks, the two leaders, who will meet again by the year end, pledged to boost cooperation in sectors such as energy and transport, where "improved commercial relations will promote mutual economic benefits and job creation in both countries".

Ms Bishop also repeated Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull's call for China to increase diplomatic and economic pressure on North Korea.

Saturday's parade honoring North Korea's country's founder, Kim Il Sung, came amid heightened tensions over the country's nuclear ambitions.

A United Nations report which noted the use of the trucks in the display of mobile artillery a year ago did not name Sinotruk, but said that the Chinese seller had included a "clear clause" in its deal with the North Korean buyer that the trucks were to be for civilian use only.

The US and South Korea have activated the Terminal High Altitude Area Defence system, which is capable of intercepting incoming warheads from North Korea.
