O'Reilly out over harassment allegations

In this combination photo, Fox News Channel personality Bill O'Reilly appears at The Hollywood Reporter's "35 Most Powerful People in Media" celebration on April 6, 2016, in NY, left, and Pope Francis leaves after celebrating Mass in Piazza Martiri Square, in Carpi, northern Italy, on April 2, 2017. O'Reilly has lost his job at Fo. One look at the O'Reilly controversy shows how it's clear that no one, including a massive news network, wants to be associated with an individual accused of sexual misconduct, even if he is steadfast in his denial. O'Reilly's success at appealing to like-minded viewers made him and Fox into cable news leaders.

O'Reilly, who has been on vacation for the last week, including a visit with Pope Francis at the Vatican, has asserted that the allegations that he sexually harassed women who appeared on his show are "unfounded". For the week of April April 24-28, Special Report with Bret Baier will fill the 5-7 p.m. timeslot.

That multiplying effect gave O'Reilly a role in a seismic change, he said.

Despite the scandal, O'Reilly continued to attract viewers.

British PM May says no to general election TV debates
Critics of an early election accuse May of taking advantage of low ratings for the main opposition Labour Party. If the vote passes, parliament will dissolve on 3 May, 25 working days before the country goes to the polls.

"After a thorough and careful review of the allegations", parent company 21st Century Fox said in a statement, "the company and Bill O'Reilly have agreed that Bill O'Reilly will not be returning to the Fox News Channel".

That certainly could happen, though it probably won't be easy.

An internal 21st Century Fox memo obtained by ABC News said that the "decision follows an extensive review done in collaboration with outside counsel".

The departure from Fox News marks a stunning end to a near flawless marriage between a pugnacious personality and network.

In addition to hosting "The Factor", O'Reilly has also written a series of historical narratives, including "Killing Jesus" and "Killing Lincoln", that have each sold more than 1 million copies in hardcover. Shares in Twenty-First Century Fox were down less than 1 per cent at $30.50 in Wednesday afternoon trading.

USS Carl Vinson carrier group expected off Korea at end of April
The New York Times reported the administration officials' conflicting reports as "glitch-ridden sequence of events ..." President Donald Trump also touted the dispatch, saying the USA is sending an "armada" to waters off Korea.

The CNN analyst also took the opportunity to criticize President Trump for backing O'Reilly in a recent New York Times interview.

On Tuesday, 21st Century Fox received an anonymous complaint against O'Reilly from a black female employee who claimed that the anchor had "leered" at her and referred to her as "hot chocolate" in 2008.

Fox said that Tucker Carlson's show would move to 8 replace O'Reilly and that the panel talk show "The Five" would take Carlson's time slot at 9 p.m. These included Mitsubishi Motors, which spent about $2.1 million for ads on O'Reilly's show in 2016, making it the show's fifth-largest advertiser.

O'Reilly's public statement on Wednesday gave no indication about what he might do next. "As we mentioned earlier, Bill O'Reilly is leaving this chair, and this network, after more than 20 years". Otherwise, the network risked developing "a reputation as unfriendly to women, potentially turning off a lot of people", said Charles Taylor, a marketing professor at Villanova University. (A Sinclair executive could not be reached for comment). It's home to movie and TV studios; a slew of sports and other cable channels; and the Fox broadcast network and shows like "The Simpsons", "Family Guy", and its latest hit, "Empire".

The U.S. Attorney's office in NY is investigating how 21st Century Fox handled the Roger Ailes scandal.
