Microsoft acquires Deis to dive deeper into Kubernetes containerisation for Azure

Microsoft is acquiring Deis, a company that makes tools to work with the Kubernetes open-source container orchestration system.

The acquisition pushes Microsoft deeper into the container market and feeds Microsoft's cloud ambitions to make Azure a real challenger to Amazon Web Services.

It's worth noting that Engine Yard acquired Deis back in 2015, so while Microsoft doesn't mention this in today's announcement, it is acquiring Deis directly from Engine Yard.

Microsoft, long known as a company that made its billions selling proprietary "closed-source" software in the past, wasn't exactly friendly to the notion of open-source software.

Large numbers of people gathered in the West Bank city of al-Khalil (Hebron) in a show of unity with the prisoners. Erdan said Barghouti's transfer to solitary confinement was unrelated to the opinion piece.

Guthrie also said Microsoft is looking forward to the Deis team bringing additional expertise with open-source technology to the company and furthering its efforts to improve developer productivity.

Google, the original Kubernetes developer, and Microsoft have both chosen Kubernetes "as their de facto standard orchestration tool" for their cloud platforms, along with most on-premises container environments, Kavis said.

Financial terms of the Microsoft deal were not disclosed. They are seen as the new building blocks of cloud-based software applications. More than anything else, the purchase spells the company's intent to stay shoot atop the Kubernetes trend, especially since containers are rapidly altering and dictating how companies build and deploy their applications.

Deis will continue its focus on making it easier to deploy containers, including "making Azure the best place to run containerized workloads", said Gabriel Monroy, chief technology officer at Deis, in a blog post.

Islamic Cultural Center Director Reza Nekumanesh says his organization "condemns the acts of the criminal in the strongest terms". He says Martin Luther King "wanted to hug their hands, and get along with them, and lick their feet and they still killed him".

With the acquisition, some say Microsoft's open source tools and cloud service, Azure, will greatly benefit from the way Deis aims to simplify the way applications are designed and operated.

Get Data Sheet, Fortune's tech newsletter. This move is not just another buyout - it forms part of a bigger move in the cloud computing world - but there is much significance to it because the one purchasing it is Microsoft.

Microsoft has invested a great deal already in technology that lets developers create applications that run in Windows and Linux containers. "As a Microsoft shop, Azure is our first choice for containers, and marrying it with Kubernetes would be a really interesting thing". But over the past few years, the tech giant has changed its stance and pushed Azure as a good home to open-source software.
