DCCC launches ad to counter Republican attacks on Jon Ossoff

Democrat Jon Ossoff will face Republican Karen Handel in a June 20 runoff to decide Georgia's 6th Congressional District Special Election.

Democrat candidate Jon Ossoff fall short in his bid to win a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia on Tuesday.

The closely-watched election in Georgia's sixth congressional district saw little-known Democratic candidate Jon Ossoff secure close to 49 per cent of the vote with 95 per cent of ballots counted, pushing Republican candidates Karen Handel and Judson Hill into second and third places respectively.

The fact that Ossoff won 48 percent of the vote in a special election race that featured 18 candidates in a formerly dark-red district is, by his own estimate, a defiance of the odds.

Please note 18 candidates were fighting in what was called the "bloody jungle primary" to fill the seat that was vacated when President Donald Trump selected Tom Price to be his Health and Human Services Secretary.

Special elections will hold particular importance for Democrats this year, as Republicans now control both the House and Senate.

A similar margin in the 2018 mid-term elections would see the Democrats regain a majority in the House of Representatives.

Trump in the final days of the campaign appeared to perceive the damage an Ossoff win would do to a presidency scoring historically low approval ratings and with an agenda that has been stymied by the courts and Congress.

The outcomes in Kansas and Georgia also serve notice that GOP candidates may struggle to handle Trump, who engenders an intense loyalty among his core supporters but alienates many independents and even Republicans.

Despite Ossoff's big lead, Trump claimed victory and said he was "glad to be of help" in blocking the Democrat from winning outright.

Bulls, not Celtics, look like the No. 1 seed
Thomas played very well in Game 1 , and one expects him to come out with a fury in Game 2 as well. "We're the No. 1 seed, and then they say we're one of the worst No. 1 seeds".

"This is a district very close on the presidential level last cycle and the Democrats went all in on this".

Mr Price had won the seat in the 2016 election by a margin of 23 points - something Mr Ossoff, a political neophyte hopes he can turn around in the run-off against Ms Handel.

The Trump White House's hypocrisy is stunning.

Ossoff was backed by major Democratic PACs and raised $8.3 million this quarter, mostly from outside groups.

"Ossoff's strong showing in what has always been a Republican district is seen by many as a wake-up call to Republicans and a sign of voters" dislike of Donald Trump. An astounding 95% of Ossoff's money came from outside the district.

Ossoff said on CNN that Trump was misinformed about his positions and that he was focused on issues affecting the northern Atlanta suburbs, not Washington.
