Steve Bannon Booted From National Security Council

President Donald Trump reshuffled his national security organization on Wednesday, removing his chief strategist, Stephen Bannon, from a top policymaking committee and restoring senior military and intelligence officials who had been downgraded when he first came into office.

A White House official said that Mr Bannon was placed on the committee in part to monitor Mr Trump's first national security adviser Michael Flynn, and never attended a meeting.

Trump's national security adviser, Army General H.R. McMaster, was given the responsibility for setting the agenda for the council's meetings. But Flynn was sacked in February after misleading Vice President Pence about the substance of his discussions with the Russian ambassador after attending only one meeting, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss a personnel matter.

Just 66 days after being appointed, Steve Bannon has stepped down from his position on the National Security Council after reportedly attending just one meeting held by the NSC Principals Committee, ending a tenure that has proven to be so short it was outlasted by Kim Kardashian's second marriage.

Border agency: Driver, agents exchange gunfire at checkpoint
Officials said the man was driving through the checkpoint when agents asked him to pull over for a secondary inspection. The shooting happened at about 6:15 p.m. during a secondary inspection, officials said in a news release.

The NYT quoted another White House official close to Mr Bannon as insisting the changes did not mean President Trump had lost confidence in him or wanted to reduce his portfolio.

"Moreover, Mr. Bannon's Svengali-style reputation has chafed on a president who sees himself as the West Wing's only leading man". "While I am relieved that Steve Bannon's sick ideology will no longer infect the National Security Council, his continued presence in this administration is alarming to millions of Americans".

A senior administration official said that Flynn reluctantly agreed to have Bannon join the NSC. The council will be more streamlined and the decision-making more deliberative, the official said.

The Principals Committee is a cabinet-level senior inter-agency panel that considers policy issues affecting U.S. national security interests.

Video of passenger getting dragged off flight sparks uproar
Bridges said three airport police surrounded the man, who began screaming when they grabbed him and wrenched him out of the seat. Passengers filmed the man being dragged down the aisle. "Oh my God! What are you doing?" one woman is heard saying.

The New York Times last week identified two NSC officials as having helped House intelligence committee Chairman Devin Nunes view secret reports.

Trump rattled the USA intelligence community when he enacted an order in January that placed Bannon on the National Security Council's principals' committee, the main policy-making group in matters mainly relating to national security.

It is the controversy of Bannon's character, aligned with the fact that it is unusual - and some claimed inappropriate - for a political adviser to sit on the council, which made his appointment such a talking point.
