India News Anchor Learns of Husband's Death on Live TV

Kaur began reading out a piece about the auto accident in Mahasamund district which claimed lives of three and left two injured.

A television anchor in India found out the death of her husband in a auto crash while she was in live TV reporting on the accident.

The moment the cameras were off she began calling her relatives and broke down.

She told the audience about the details - three people had died and two were injured when an SUV and truck collided in Pithora. "(Kaur's husband) Harshad Kawade, a Raipur resident, was one of them", a police officer said. The Chief Minister of the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh commended and offered his condolences to Kaur via Twitter, stating "Salute Supreet's strength in dealing with her husband's demise with extraordinary bravery & professionalism".

The production team read found out about Kawade's death during the broadcast, but "did not have the courage" to tell Kaur until after the news, Buzzfeed reports.

Kaur broke down when her husband's death was confirmed to her after the show when she went from the set to the newsroom. She then called her family to inform them about the accident, according to IBC24 editor-in-chief Ravi Kant Mittal. "She has a young daughter, and we stand with our colleague in her pain", the editor said.
