City's unemployment rate 7.7 per cent

The US unemployment rate fell in March to 4.5 per cent, its lowest level in almost 10 years, but job creation tumbled unexpectedly, underscoring the challenges President Donald Trump faces to fulfil his 25-million-job pledge.

Last month, construction jobs increased by 6,000 jobs which was the weakest increase since August, after robust gains in January and February.

U.S. employers added 98,000 nonfarm payrolls in March, far fewer than forecast, according to a report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released on Friday. Retailers including J.C. Manufacturing and construction industries job growth cooled somewhat from February, adding 11,000 and 6,000 jobs in March, respectively.
